Annual Events
C.J. Dennis Festival
Among the many celebrations held in Auburn, one of the most important is the CJ Dennis Festival held on the second weekend of September.
Being the birthplace of the man himself, Auburn delights in celebrating his works by holding the annual Max Fatchen Literary Awards for children of school age. Presentations are held in The Stables at The Rising Sun Hotel on the Sunday afteroon and attract a huge number of participants each year.
A focal point of our commitment to CJ was to erect and name the main pavilion in our local Centenary Park after him – known as the CJ Dennis Pavilion.
Australia Day
This is a wonderful family event held in Centenary Park from 8:30am on January 26th to support the local community as we celebrate Australia Day. Purchase a generous BBQ breakfast and be entertained by live music. There will be cold drinks plus tea and coffee available for purchase.
We also hold a raffle with a great prize consisting of items donated by the community.
It is a terrific morning with any profits for the day going toward local community projects.
Please remember to bring along a chair.
Sponsored by the Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council and The Auburn Community Development Committee (ACDC).
Details will be announced in the Auburn Express newsletter prior to the event or check out the Auburn Facebook page.
ANZAC Day
The Annual Dawn Service is a time honoured tradition that is well supported by the Auburn Community. Around 100 people gather around the War Memorial site on Main North Road to remember those who served and lost their lives for their Country. This is followed by the lowering of flag at the Memorial Gate a little up the road. The Service is supported by our regular bugler Brendan Hrycek who adds solemnity to the proceedings.
Following the Service, a sausage sizzle is provided by the Auburn Branch of the RSL, including the traditional ANZAC Biscuit with tea and coffee.
A Project to light the Memorial and the Flag Pole is currently being undertaken. Sponsored by the Auburn Branch of the RSL.
Check our website’s Community Register for contact details.
Christmas Eve in the Park
Everyone is inspired by the Christmas spirit and Auburn is no different. The Community comes together in this celebration of life and is regarded by the locals as the place to be together in the spirit of love and communication. Centenary Park is the location of this much loved gathering.
The evenings events commence around 6 p.m. and include a BBQ, drinks, ice creams, raffle, music and of course a visit from our very own Father Christmas who regularly arrives in the Fire Truck handing out gifts for the children.
You are most welcome to come and join this event with us. Please bring your own table and chairs or rug and whatever you feel will help you get through this wonderful shared evening.
Sponsored by The Auburn Community Development Committee (ACDC). Check the Auburn Express newsletter for details.
Christmas Carols in the Park
Singing Christmas Carols is a time honoured practice. The Auburn Community gathers people from all ecumenical backgrounds to enjoy this special event in Centenary Park.
Held at 9am on the Sunday prior to Christmas Day, it is followed by tea, coffee and cake. Donations are made to a selected charity.
Sponsored by the combined Churches. Check the Auburn Express newsletter for details.
